How can i find out how much this is share/stock is worth if anything?
i work part time at a local landfill and came across this stock/share certificate, its for The St Mary Bank and Trust Co. based out of franklin LA, the stamps are posted as june 21st 1949, its 2 shares, capital stock value $100,000.00, and the shares were valued at $100.00 each ( $200.00 total), im just wondering if this is just garbage or could it be something i come across that might provide a small windfall. thanks

- Check the stocks and trades section of the paper or call a broker.
- Contact the Louisiana Secretary of state. They can tell you the status of the company now. You may be able to look it up on the Secretary of State's website. The certificates may also have value as a collectors item.
- ...chances are if you found it it is worth nothing; regardless you wouldn't be entitled to the shares anyway if the company is still around. Probably an old business and probably not public
- looks like St Mary's B & Trust merged with an Alabama Bank in 1999 http://www.businessreport.com/news/2008/nov/17/capital-idea-fnc1/ "July: St. Mary Bank & Trust Co. [Franklin] merges with Regions Bank [Birmingham, Ala.] and becomes Regions Bank." ...look on the stock certificate for a "CUSIP" number then contact any stock brokerage firm....it may be that the 2 shares were B-class, preferred shareholder stocks with little value, but at one time included voting priveleges in the bank's board decisions ...many times after a rescue-merger the stock value becomes known as "wallpaper for the wellhouse"....mine did, I once owned part of a Savings and Loan, in Texas, that was absorbed during the 1980's, I lost .....(sadly, alot)... ...on the bright side, perhaps that certificate is still of some functional value....easy to contact a nice broker, like Fidelity, call and ask them,,,anyone with ability to trade stocks can easily answer your question Best of luck to you Hey, BTW, you're new here yes? chat soon maybe?...sounds interesting? (smiling)
- You can check out this site, it may be of some help: http://www.usatoday.com/money/wealth/making/mmw189.htm After doing some digging, I found that Regions bank bought out The St Mary Bank and Trust Co, of Franklin, LA in July of 1997. What you are facing at this point is whether or not either St Mary or Regions still has a file active for your certificates, or whether they were transferred, sold, or moved to the State's unclaimed property. I would definitely keep them, and call Regions to find out more information about the merger, including what the conversion is from St Mary shares to Regions(which at the time was somewhere around 31 dollars per share). Also see if the shares are still active, and if and how you can cash them in. Good luck!
