  1. There is certainly a lot to be learned! I would suggest going to a financial planner and asking lots of questions, maybe taking a college course, or doing more research on the web. Also, if you know of anybody that is currently investing, maybe they can teach you the basics.
  2. Yes stocks can be intimidating at first, but I think it is actually fairly easy to learn the basics. Yes you can make a lot of money once you know what you are doing, but there is always risk involved. For some good beginner information I recommend the articles on http://www.investopedia.com They also have a stock market simulator where you can try out the stock market with fake money before you risk the real thing.... it's like a stock market game basically.
  3. Read "Investing For Dummies." A good starter book.
  4. honestly it looks hard an confusing, but just watch cnbc and when you see or hear something you dont know about just go to investopia or wikipedia and learn the definition
  5. Yeah, the investment world can be confusing. I've been doing this stuff for years and still learn new things every day. There is a lot of information out there that I believe you do NOT need to know. This world of investing is crammed full of facts and figures...sort of like sports. But it is the score at the end of the game that matters. Don't get so far in that you don't enjoy it anymore. With that said, you can still make money with stocks and bonds with little to no knowledge, but it would be driven by luck more than skill. My personal plan that helped me was to read one page on Investpedia per day. After a few months, I felt smart enough to jump into the game. ** You can make a lot of money, but odds are against you. Of course, what do you mean by a lot? I took that to mean you could quit your current job and live on your stock gains. Odds are very low for that to happen or else would actually know thousands, even hundreds, ok ten, how about one person in your town that has accomplished this feat. Think of this not as making money, but as a long term savings plan.
