Stock Price Charts

How is the price of a share of stock determined?

If I want to buy some shares of stock and the price at that moment is $90, who sets it or how is it calculated at $90 and not $91 or $89.

Public Comments

  1. The laws of supply and demand determine the price. If the current price is $90 and no seller is willing to sell for less than $90 while buyers are willing to pay no more than $91, then the next several trades would likely occur at prices between $90 and $91. Typical trading ranges in the short term are much tigher than this. So typically the range would be just a few pennies.
