What steps do I take to purchase a share of stock?

I have no experience. I want to purchase a single share of a major stock, such as Disney.

1. Open an account on charles schwab.com there is no minimum balance and to purchase a share just ollow the instructions and click accordingly. Why only one share??
2. You can either hire a broker or open a bokerage account at countless companies. Here is a list you can look into: www.etrade.com www.sharebuilder.com www.zecco.com www.tdameritrade.com Some require a minimum balance, some don't...you will have to do some research on what your needs are.
