What don't stock price charts have the Y axis start at zero? Stock charts almost always have their Y axis limited to the range of activity. As an example, check out any stock on Yahoo Finance. If a stock trades between 20 and 25 during a given time period, the chart's Y axis is from 20 to 25, not from 0 to 25. This makes a stock that is very stable, tading between 80 and 81, look just as volitile as a stock trading from 80 to 160 at first glance. If the charts were grounded at zero, you would immediately see that the stable stock was very different than the volitile one.
When a stock splits, why doesnt the price drop on charts? I've noticed that when many stocks split, their prices don't drop on charts as you'd expect them to. Do the numbers people fudge with the y-axis on the graph so people dont overreact when they see a 50% drop on a chart? If yes, how do they do this? Just curious....
How do I find Historical Stock Charts? I'm doing research and I want to look at older historical stock charts. Ex. I want to see how 'RAD' was trading on 5/11/09 I don't want to see historical stock prices, I know how to do that. I heard you can do it on Yahoo Finance. Can someone tell me exactly how to do it on Yahoo Finance, I can't figure it out. or do you know of a site that offers that service? Thanks
How do they figure out how to chart a stock's price in relation to its earnings? if i saw a chart with a line graph of a stock's earnings and price for the past year or so. how would i know if the stock is overpriced or underpriced. basically what i'm saying is: the y-axes for the two variables are on different scales, how can i make them relate in a meaningful way. clarification: let's say the earnings line on a graph is way above the stock's price on the same exact graph. how do i know that that's because the stock is undervalued with relation to earnings or because the two scales on the y-axes are off. like in peter lynch's book he compares earnings and price on the same graph to make a decision on whether a stock's price is over or undervalued. how would i make a graph like that on my own??
Why do some of the Nanotech stocks have such a high price in their chart history? I am newly into investing in nanotechnology stocks. When I look at their stock value charts some show very high stock prices a few years back. Advanced Nanotech, AVNA shows a value in the thousands back in 2000-2001. Biosantee Pharma, BPA and Arrowhead Research, ARWR also show high values in the past. Does anyone have an idea why this is.
Where can I get stock charts with both price and earnings? Don't think I've ever come across one, and I'd rather not have to check the books every time, especially when they are outdated. Where can I find this? I would prefer one free, but I would like to know all the services that offer this (if it is expensive, I'll just hold off for a few years -- I'm guessing Morningstar, ValueLine, StandardandPoors for starters?). Thanks for your help! Dates of earnings announcements will not help. Thanks anyway. I assume your answer actually meant the ex-dividend date, which would not help either.
Stock prices changing(charts)? I posted a question on yahoo answers before asking, "How do stock prices change over a period of time?" The answers were okay, but I'm not quite sure I was satisfied with them completely. Are there charts that show how stock prices have changed and continue to change over a period of time? Or maybe you have a better answer than the ones I previously recieved. I really need this information for a project I'm doing. Thank you for your time and any info is greatly appreciated.
Where can I get affordable real-time stock charts? I am an active student trader and I need a real-time stock chart I can use (I currently use scottrade as my broker and they do offer real-time charts along with their elite program which I do not qualify for because of my small account value). I looked at the Prophet website, but they charge $499.50/year for their real-time charts which includes all the technical analysis feature. And their charts are interactive. However it is to damm EXPENSIVE for my taste. Is there any real-time charts that I can use for an affordable price? It must offer technical analysis features and live quotes. Thanks!! I already get real time stock price, but I need REAL-TIME "Techinical STOCK CHARTS" at an affordable price.
where can I see stock charts showing open puts and calls? I know how to find the google finance charts for stocks which show graphs that depict the current stock prices but the charts don't show the going rates for puts and calls on any stocks at all. I would like to be able to view option charts with different strike prices and associate call and put rates for different months. They don't necessarily have to be live. They can be delayed 15 minutes as I just want to study them. I believe yahoo has a subcription that might provide those? Not sure just checking all options and what people generally prefer.
What happened to Yahoo Finance Beta stock charts?? The Beta charts were the only ones that were readable. You could see the vertical price lines on the Intraday chart clearly. The "interactive" chart they're now using is blurred like ink running on soft paper.
Can someone give me the closing price for May Company stock on June 23, 1997? This stock is no longer listed on any stock exchange. It was merged with Federated. Its ticker symbol used to be MAY. All the historical databases I could find(Yahoo Finance, Big Charts and Silicon Investor) either do not recognize the symbol or do not have the information in their historical charts. I might be able to find it in the Daily Stock Price Record(book) or on the CRSP/wrds site from Wharton, but I have access to neither. I need it for determining the cost basis for my tax return.
how to understand stock charts?? hi. what does the volume number indicate in a stock chart? i see it changes when the stock price changes! what does this indicate? how much stocks are issued by each company and why? can all stocks be bought? what happens if there are no more stocks to sell for a company, is this possible?
Where can I find the price of a stock? Ok, tell me if I am correct, I am looking at the stock chart for Exxon I see 71.05 -0.39 -.055% Am I correct by thinking 71.05 is the price of buying into the stock or is that just by how much the stock is down right now?
How does my employers falling stock price effect our company? ? In particular I am talking about stock symbol (AFG). I have been watching the chart for the past few days, and have watched it continue to fall. How does this, or how will this, effect us as employees, if the prices per share continues to fall? I'm not worried or anything, but I am intrested in knowing. Thanks!
Does the price of a stock cut in half when the stock splits? Does a split affect the price of a stock? If so, than how? I have not noticed any half price reductions because of splits on the charts. Heres some good info on the charting part of my query which some people alluded to. http://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/05/splitleadgapping.asp

Are there charts available for NSE stocks that are adjusted for bonuses? I have been looking for charts of stocks that are traded on NSE that has information about stock prices adjusted for bonus and dividends. The only chart that came close to what I was looking for was that of yahoo finance but this does not have information when bonuses were given out. The charts have to have information for the last 5 years.
What is your backup site to find the true stock price? Today, at the same moment in time, Yahoo lists EWZ as trading at $67.12 , Yahoo chart lists it at about $85 and barchart.com lists it trading at 85.03. Barchart isn't always accurate either, because it said the SP500 crashed something like 80% in one day this year. That never happened. So what site do you use that doesn't make mistakes in the true value of the stocks and indexes?
How does volume determine the price of a stock? I'm not going to search for highly scientific and technical terms. I just want to know the following: We have a relatively considerable downtrend stock that is suddenly showing a massively high volume change. Does this mean the stock is being bought by huge institutions (mutual funds)? If yes, this logically consolidates the stock and gives it support to start a significant uptrend move, doesn't it? And is the opposite also true? When we have a stock that has been on the rise for a relatively considerable period and now, suddenly, after a lot of action spotted in its volume, the stock begins its downtrend, does this mean the same institutional owners and other traders are losing confidence in the stock? Is the price of a stock pushed upward or downward in relation to the number of people or institutions that own it? Does the volume of a stock only show sheer speculation about that stock? Also, why should I care, in a stock chart, about the P-E ratio? If I know the price of the stock and its EPS, what use can the P-E ratio be? Or is it only there so that you may compare it with the company's previous P-E ratio, kind of like the EPS? Is the overbuying of a stock a good sign?
I need help with the stock market charts? Im trying to work out the closing prices for Apple Inc. Stock market for the following dates. 7/14/09 = 7/15/09 = 7/16/09 = 7/17/09 = 7/20/09 = 7/21/09 = 7/22/09 = 7/23/09 = 7/24/09= Thanks
big discrepancy in stock price history? take a look at TRP TransCanada Corporation (NYSE): On the Yahoo chart, price per share in Jan 1998 was about $12: http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=TRP#chart1:symbol=trp;range=my;indicator=volume;charttype=line;crosshair=on;ohlcvalues=0;logscale=on;source=undefined But on the Google chart, the price per share in Jan 1998 was about $22. http://finance.google.com/finance?q=TRP That's a large difference. There was a $7.237 dividend in July 1998. Could that be related? http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=TRP&a=11&b=30&c=1987&d=11&e=25&f=1999&g=m
Stock Options listed by PRICE? I need to find a screener or charts that shows stock options listed by specific prices. Yahoo! Stock Screener is not what i am looking for . I need something where i can choose stock options according to the price i am willing to pay for them.
Question for a technician about stock charts.? What does it tell you when a stock keeps on jumping back to a certain price. For example, stock Y's 52 week low is $90 and and has a high of $360 It current price jumps down to $90 (intraday) but for the last week has been consistently closing above $100. Then today it closes at $110, in line with the broader markets' 10 % gain. Is this a support level and means that it now moves further? I now the fundamentals for this company are good and it should beat earnings forecast, but I want to get some technical indicators. Thanks
